Lynyrd Skynyrd – Free Bird guitar solo

Free Bird has a very long and killer guitar solo that is one of the most famous and widely recognized guitar solos of all time. When researching it I assumed that the duet parts were Allen Collins and Gary Rossington but this interview in Guitar World says it was two takes by Allen Collins.

What was hard about it: Not quitting. Also, there is an extraordinary amount of bending and if you don’t get it pretty close to perfect, it’s glaring. What was easy about it: There are a lot of repeated figures. How I feel about the result: One of the best ones I’ve done… In places where I can clearly hear the two parts I double both of them.

Thanks for listening.
